Incorrect posture can be a dangerous thing. The muscle, tendon and ligament imbalances that result from poor alignment can lead to a number problems:
"No body is perfect". We all have some postural deviations due to genetics and the environment. How we move, how we work, how we sit can have an effect of our posture. Our bodies are continuously fighting against gravity and forces produced while just living.
Sitting for example has a terrible effect on our bodies. In the modern world we spend far too much time sitting at work, in cars and at home in front of the TV. When we sit in the same position for to long we end up shortening some muscles and lengthening others. This creates an imbalance between opposite sides of the body. Over a period of time this can change the shape of our bones as seen in Kyphosis (Excessive outward curvature of the spine, causing hunching of the back).
The good news is we can all make improvements to our posture.
Example:Client with kyphosis, Forward Head Posture, Rounded Shoulders and Anterior pelvic tilt.
I have been working with my client on posture realignment. Using a specialised process reversing years of incorrect posture developed by environmental factors such as working at a computer. As you can see by the photos a programme focusing on myofascial release and strengthening the long weak postural muscles can make a significant change.
I include a postural analyses for all of my clients and prescribe specific postural exercises as a part of their total programme design.
